Reverse Retro Jersey? The good, the bad & the what were they thinking?

Hey.

Ya it has been a while since there was anything posted here but screw it we are ranking some new jerseys! Mainly because we are bored and there is nothing on my TV today.

So this is a collab between Jayson and Kelsey. First Kelseys rankings:

1. Montreal Canadians So clean you could eat a poutine off of it. This is exactly what comes to mind for an alternate Canadians jersey. It just makes sense. Too bad one of my favourite players, Max Domi, won’t get the chance to wear it. But hey, they got Josh Anderson...

2. Arizona Coyotes A beautiful take on an older alternate jersey that was unique in its own right. The bottom desert landscape takes me away to warmer weather. Too bad one of my favourite players, Max Domi, won’t get the chance to wear it. But hey, they got Alex Galchen... nevermind.

3. NYR This logo goes hard. I would have added some red and white on the shoulders to compliment the arms but overall it’s a

simple, sexy jersey.

4. Calgary Flames I know what you’re thinking, Calgary over Edmonton? I don’t know, maybe I’m just bias to darker jerseys. Or maybe that horse head is just badass.

5. Edmonton Oilers They could have gone copper and blue. I think that was a missed opportunity. However, it’s still a visually pleasing jersey that isn’t too complicated.

6. Pittsburgh Penguins Love the diagonal letters.

7. LA Kings

8. Vegas Golden Knights Some people (Jayson) don’t get it, but I think it’s a nice change from their other jerseys. It does somehow give a retro vibe, even though Vegas is only a few years old.

9. Boston Bruins I like how yellow is the primary colour here.

10. Ottawa Senators Basically like their new jerseys, but reversed colours. Which is half of the point I guess. They’ll fit nicely with the rebrand.

11. San Jose Sharks

12. Chicago Blackhawks

13. Vancouver Canucks

14. Tampa Bay Lightning I love that shade of blue. It’s a nice throwback, despite the ugly logo.

15. Washington Capitals Would have been cool to see some black in there. I guess that’s the name of the game though - modern colour scheme, throwback logo.

16. Anaheim Ducks Not terrible, not great. It’s not your typical hockey jersey and I like that.

17. Florida Panthers

18. Buffalo Sabres Missed opportunity to bring back the black/red/white/grey scheme but still looks good. Points for the Buffalo head on the shoulders.

19. Nashville Predators

20. St. Louis Blues

21. Carolina Hurricanes Probably an unpopular opinion to have it this low but it’s just mediocre for me. Probably would have liked a dark jersey more.

22. Philadelphia Flyers

23. NYI Basically their current jerseys with a darker blue like they had in the early 2000’s. Looks fine, but minimal effort in my opinion.

24. New Jersey Devils

25. Toronto Maple Leafs The logo throws me off a little bit.

26. Winnipeg Jets

27. Minnesota Wild Perhaps another unpopular opinion to have it this low. I would have gone just straight North Stars on ‘em.

28. Colorado Avalanche Appreciate the idea but I don’t think it works. Give me a diagonally written “Colorado” and I’ll be good.

29. Columbus Blue Jackets I don’t mind the red, but the rest of it is confusing and not nice to look at. Too bad one of my favourite players, Max Domi has to wear it...

30. Dallas Stars

31. Detroit Red Wings This reminds me of colouring as a child. You start off so strong and just pack the colour in there. Everything is going perfectly. By the end of it though, your hand cramps up from pressing so hard and your effort does down the drain. I feel like this was the last jersey they did and were just over it. Where is the grey coming from?! Have some creativity for goodness sakes. Embarrassing.

Jayson's Rankings:

You get an A!

For mine I am simply putting them in tiers and I will give you why I think that.

LA KINGS:

Just stunning, I love the 90's grey logo and mixing it up with the gold and purple. I am glad they didn't go and put the burger king guy on it this go around...

Colorado Avalanche:

Love that they stuck with the right colours for this one and you cannot go wrong with the Nordiques Logo.

New Jersey Devils:

They should just have this and white version and switch them for the regular jerseys. Their normal home & away jerseys are awful so I am glad that the reverse retros are nice!

Pittsburgh Penguins:

Any jersey with the diagonal city on it I am immediately going to love it. The Penguins did it right with these retros!

Tampa Bay Lightning:

Tampa was ATROCIOUS when these jerseys were their primary's but now that they are Stanley Cup champions they will look beautiful. I have always loved that logo and the blue and black look great together.

St. Louis Blues:

The Blues made a little switcheroo on the colours which I really like!

Almost an A....so a B.

Ottawa Senators:

First off I love that they went back to the 2D logo, the colours are amazing and I just think they could've had a different logo like the big O or something.

Montreal Canadiens:

They saved it with the red and white line in the middle of it but blue is only ok not great.

Florida Panthers:

Love this jersey but the only thing wrong is the sleeves. Ya, I know it was that design in the 90's and early 2000's but that doesn't make me like it any more. Again I do like it! Brings me big Pavel Bure vibes.

Boston Bruins:

Again I love this jersey but I would've LOVED the bear head instead.

Arizona Coyotes:

Ya its nice I just can't give a grade of an A to an organization that has made some DUMB decisions recently. I guess Auston Matthews will look good in it in a couple years? @Toronto Maple Leafs Fans

Middle of the road so C.

San Jose Sharks:

I see where they were going with the grey and the old logo but I would've so much rather have seen the jerseys that they first came out with.

Buffalo Sabres:

Again I like them but as Kelsey said I wanted the buffalo head to be right out on the front. Iconic players like Hasek, Briere and Miroslav Satan wore it and I want iconic Sabre player Taylor Hall to wear it too!

Edmonton Oilers:

I have said it once and I will say it again. This is great but this is better...

Calgary Flames:

The horses name is Blasty. Thats all

Carolina Hurricanes:

Ya its nice I just would've like it to be white not grey like it is.

Chicago Blackhawks:

It's just a generic Blackhawks jersey. Nice? Yes! Something new and fun? Nah.

Minnesota Wild:

It is just unfortunate that the couldn't use the actual North Stars logo. Other than that it is just alright.

New York Rangers:

The logo is great it really is but they plastered it on a generic blue sweater. Nothing else.

Philedelphia Flyers:

I was very close to putting this in a lower tier but the orange is nice. It kinda looks like a knock off jersey you would buy at Wal-Mart

Anaheim Ducks:

The more I keep looking at it the more I wish they would've just went with the Mighty Ducks logo. It really wasn't that hard

So close or just unoriginal. A D!

Toronto Maple Leafs:

The logo is just so bad to look at. The white arms are actually ok but ya that logo is just awful.

Vegas Golden Knights:

I have mentioned this to Kelsey and I will say it here as well. I don't like the all red. Its' not Golden nor is it nice to look at. Now I get that they had to do something because they have only been the league for a hot second but I would've done a black version of the jersey they already have. The alternate logo on it is actually ok to me.

Columbus Blue Jackets:

It's a nice Capitals jersey. You can't unsee it now can you? I do like that they went back to that logo that they first came out with.

Vancouver Canucks:

A sprite can! But seriously go back to the only jersey that ever looked good in Vancouver.

Washington Capitals:

The logo looks great! I just don't like that they slapped it on the red jersey. Putting it on the black one and it would've been great!

Nashville Predators:

It looks like a cheap knock off jersey you would find on broadway in Nashville at a place that's called Honky Tonk's Food and Drug Store.

Get rid of it!! NOW!

Dallas Stars:

I am still waiting to see if they are going to finish it....

Detroit Red Wings:

Winnipeg Jets:

Black and Blue? No red? A weird grey base. It just misses the mark on so many levels.

New York Islanders:

It just looks like the normal Islanders Jersey. Like what is different about this? Do something fun! Not the Fisherman jersey please.

All in all I like that there is something to talk about with hockey and yes some of the jerseys look just great. However most of them are not good and overall bad.
