What is Darnell Nurse Worth?

It's getting to be around the time where we talk about trades, who would you have to give up to get this guy or that guy. It's also over payment season! There are guys that you should give some well deserved big bucks to. Is Darnell Nurse one of those guys? Let's see!

It was reported earlier today that Darnell Nurse wants 8 Million dollars per season, which is a lot of dough! Who is making that kind of money you ask?

WHAT IF HE MAKES 8 MIL?

CAP HIT

1. Jacob Trouba NYR UFA $8,000,000 $12,000,000

2. Brent Burns SJS UFA $8,000,000 $10,000,000

3. John Carlson WSH UFA $8,000,000 $12,000,000

4. Victor Hedman TBL UFA $7,875,000 $8,000,000

5. Shea Weber MTL UFA $7,857,143 $6,000,000

Looking at the top 3 guys. Jacob Trouba has played 51 games scoring 23 points and -9 on a bad Ranger team. Trouba might be the only comparable on this list.

Brent Burns has been one of the most dominating d men in the NHL for the past 5 years. Scoring at least 60 points in those season including last year where he put up 83 points. Nurse is nowhere near Burns.

John Carlson has be...IS the Norris trophy winner this year. Carlson already has 62 points in 53 games and has been consistently Washingtons best defensemen. So not a comparable. So let us compare these numbers with Darnell's numbers.

In 53 games, Nurse has put up 22 points, 40 PIM's and is -3. He is playing with a very young defensemen in Ethan Bear who, yes has been playing well, is only 22 years old.

COMPARABLES.

With the exception of guys like OEL and Miro Heiskanen, there are some very mediocre to top 4 defensemen on this list and a lot of them are making 4-6.5 million dollars. So in my opinion, no he should not be making $8 million.

WHAT SHOULD HE GET?

With all of this being said, I do like what Nurse brings. Toughness, can play on the PK and can put up some points as he did last year by putting up 41 of them. What he should not be getting is $8 million. I would be happy with a couple of things:

1. Another bridge deal worth around 4.5-5 million. He currently makes 3.2 so it would be a raise for him. This should give him a 2 more years to really prove what he is worth to this team.

2. A 4-5 year deal at around the 6-6.5 Million mark. This is obviously a downgrade to what he is asking for but I think it is what he should be making, especially looking at the comparables.

What do you think? Let me know! Or ignore me, whatever.
